A walking route from Pariwana Lima to the most artistic, coastal and bohemian side of Barranco.
This route takes you from Pariwana Hostel Lima to Barranco, one of Lima’s most artistic and bohemian neighborhoods. Along the way, you’ll pass ocean-view malecones, quiet parks, streets with old mansions, local design shops, murals, historic squares and the famous Bridge of Sighs.
Follow the map from your phone and use this guide as a quick reference to know what to look for in each part of the walk.
1 | Leave Pariwana Lima toward BarrancoStart at Pariwana Hostel Lima and head toward Puente de la Paz, the bridge that connects Miraflores with Barranco. You can do this first section on foot or take a short taxi ride if you prefer to save energy for the most scenic part of the route. |
2 | Cross Puente de la PazThis bridge marks the entrance to Barranco from Miraflores. From here, the most scenic part of the route begins, with malecones, parks and ocean views. |
3 | Walk along Malecón Paul HarrisContinue along Malecón Paul Harris and stop at Parque de las Mariposas. If you do the route in the afternoon, this can be a great spot to enjoy the sunset light. |
4 | Find the Mafalda sculptureContinue toward Malecón Souza and stop by the Mafalda sculpture, the famous Argentine comic character. It’s a quick, curious stop and a good photo spot. |
5 | Walk along Malecón Sáenz Peña and visit DédaloFollow Malecón Sáenz Peña, one of the most beautiful areas of Barranco. Here we recommend stopping at Dédalo, a shop-gallery with pieces by Peruvian artists and designers. It’s a great place to find souvenirs that are different from the typical products you’ll see in craft markets. |
6 | Continue toward Plaza San FranciscoCross Av. Miguel Grau toward Calle Cajamarca, then take Jr. Colón until you reach Plaza San Francisco. In this section, you’ll start seeing old mansions, colorful façades and streets with plenty of Barranco character. |
7 | Walk along Colón and BreganteContinue along Colón and Bregante streets, where you’ll find some of the most photogenic mansions on the route. Then continue toward Unión Street and reach Barranco Municipal Park, a good place to rest for a few minutes. |
8 | Reach Plazuela Chabuca Granda and Puente de los SuspirosCross Av. Pedro de Osma toward Plazuela Chabuca Granda. Very close by, you’ll find the famous Puente de los Suspiros. Legend says that if it’s your first time in Lima, you should cross it while holding your breath and make a wish. |
9 | Go down Bajada de Baños if you want an extra viewIf you have time, walk down Bajada de Baños to the viewpoint. It’s an optional stop, but it’s worth it if you want an extra ocean view and a few more photos. |
10 | Return through La Ermita and Jr. Batalla de JunínResume the route along La Ermita Street and continue through Jr. Batalla de Junín until you return toward Malecón Souza. This part feels calmer and more local. |
11 | Head back to Pariwana LimaContinue along Malecón Paul Harris, cross Puente de la Paz again and return to Pariwana Hostel Lima on foot or by taxi. |
Wear comfortable shoes, bring water and use sunscreen during the day. If you do the route close to sunset, bring a light jacket: the malecón area can feel fresh because of the wind.
Barranco is very walkable during the day, but keep your personal belongings in sight, avoid showing your phone unnecessarily in crowded areas and, if you return late, consider taking a taxi.
