Camana is a popular tourist destination, but not for most international backpackers. During the summer months of December through March Peruvians flock to this bustling south coast town, flooding downtown hotels and hostels, filling the beachfront accommodations and saturating the beachfront.

Cusco is a fantastic city with a thriving culture that demands to be explored. My first few days in the city were spent wandering the streets and I thoroughly enjoyed looking around.

Many cities in Peru may lack a centralized public transit system with underground trains and covered bus stops, but to say that any city of size doesn’t have a public transit system at all would be a mistake.

You are backpacking around Peru to see it all; the ruins, the culture, and above all the food! You’ll have to read up before you set out in order not to miss the specialties.

During my time in Cusco I went to Machu Picchu. I didn´t book early enough to go on the Inca Trail, you need to book months in advance, so instead I went on the jungle trail.

I arrived in Cusco from Copacabana and thus had to cross the border between Bolivia and Peru. Our bus stopped at the border, 20 minute drive outside Copacabana and waited for us while we went into the Bolivian border check.
